Wellness Place Gala Celebrates Foglia Center; Welcomes New Board Chair

Wellness Place, dedicated to cancer education and support, held its 2010 annual meeting at the Wynstone Country Club in North Barrington.

Ellaine Sambo-Reyther was introduced as the newly elected chairwoman of the Wellness Place board of directors. Mrs. Sambo-Reyther is the director of trust and estate services at Harris Private Bank in Barrington and has served as a member of the board since 2009.

"I am proud and excited to serve for such a worthy organization. Support through a cancer journey has made a vital difference in the lives of countless individuals," said Mrs. Sambo-Reyther "I look forward to the many people we will help in the coming months and years."

Ken Stobart, of K&M Printing, was honored with the Foglia Loyalty and Commitment Award, for his commitment and philanthropy on behalf of Wellness Place.

Executive Director Pam Reiss recognized Ken for "his outstanding leadership and service by serving on the board of directors and the Wellness Challenge Golf Committee since 2007."

Lisa Stamos, publisher of Quintessential Barrington Magazine, was recognized for having gone "above and beyond" in partnering with Wellness Place, and was issued the Porter Community Partnership Award.

The gathering also celebrated the recent renovation and naming of the Foglia Children, Teen and Family Center and the Tree House Pediatric Oncology Playroom.

The Tree House is an interactive, nonthreatening environment designed to simulate a medical oncology setting for the youngest participants at Wellness Place.

"Taking the fear out of words like needles, shunts and ports, words no child should have to know, dramatically reduces the anxiety that accompanies procedures," says Pam Reiss.

The Children, Teen and Family Center was dedicated to Pat and Vince Foglia due to their unmatched support of Wellness Place throughout its 10-year history.

Wellness Place provides education, counseling and support for those affected by cancer. Cancer-related discussion and support groups provide a confidential atmosphere for cancer survivors, family and caregivers to discuss issues related to the illness.

Discussions may include emotional needs; practical problems such as managing side effects; and maintaining a balance between work, family and treatments. For information call (847) 221-2400 or visit wellnessplace.org.
